scary stories

DON’T GO INTO THE GARAGE!!!! It’s Halloween and we have a frightful one for you.

It’s Christmas morning and little Johnny and Maria are bursting with excitement about opening.their presents. You have worked hard to find gifts you know they’ll love. Not only have you shopped for great gifts, but you have spent lots of money on wrapping paper, tape and ribbon. You have spent hours and hours wrapping the presents. When it’s time to open gifts there is a room full of joy - and possibly chaos. Wrapping paper is being ripped open and thrown on the floor. The pile grows bigger and bigger and by the end of the morning you are left with delighted children but an enormous pile of trash, filling bags and bags that you will take to the curb. (and where did that gift card from Grandma go? Is it in this giant pile??) When the trash leaves your home, the bulk of it will go to a landfill. A lot of that wrapping paper can’t be recycled because of the dyes and laminates in it.

In Dec 2021, Americans used 4.6 million pounds of wrapping paper - and spent 7 billion dollars on it, according to Sundale Research. We throw away 25% more trash in the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. What a horrible waste!

Don’t be a ghoul. Switch to reusable fabric gift wrap and make the holidays a little more sustainable! And when the holidays are over, fold up the sheets and store them for the next delightful occasion. A scary story with a happy ending. Easy, elegant, ecofriendly!
