#zerowaste

Change is everywhere, and in the sustainable space you can see it in ways large and small all around you.

You can see it on social media. When we first started Rapt about 5 years ago, the hashtag #zerowaste had about 1.8M posts on Instagram. Today it has 10.4 Million.

You can see it in travel. Most airports now have water re-filling stations. And swag bags often include a reusable water bottle. More and more people drive EVs or hybrids.

You can see it in hospitality. Many hotels are moving to large refillable bottles instead of small plastic toiletries. Two hotels where we recently stayed - one in Vermont and the other in Colorado - had refillable glass water bottles in the room with water filling stations down the hall.

You can see it when you are out shopping. More people are bringing their own bags to the grocery store, and retail stores are charging to get a bag. You see more reusable products on the shelves, like reusable sandwich pouches and fun bento boxes for packing lunches.

You see it in products for the home. There are more sustainable products like dryer balls to replace dryer sheets, and of course, Rapt reusable gift wrap instead of single-use wrapping paper. There are companies rethinking packaging to reduce or eliminate plastic: shampoo in bars instead of plastic bottles and dental floss in a cardboard box instead of a plastic one. I love the latter and still need to try the former. Send us brands you like!

You see it in fashion: Most recently, we noticed that Madewell has started a denim recycling program that is turning old textiles into insulation for homes. Talk about repurposing!

And lastly, you see change happening at the state level. Here is Massachusetts, you can no longer throw textiles in the trash. Here at Rapt, we will be exploring this and seeing if there is a way to give new life to textiles that are no longer needed or wanted. Stay tuned! And stay optimistic!
